Dykes have been proposed to play a role in the formation of Valles Marineris, troughs, surrounding grabens and pit-chains. We may see a dyke in this area with an orientation non-parallel to the troughs. This could be an important observation in order to better understand the magmatic and tectonic processes which occurred in Valles Marineris.
