Cliff with Layers and Possible Unconformity

Cliff with Layers and Possible Unconformity

Layered Cliffs and a Possible Unconformity
This cliff features great exposure of layered strata and a possible unconformity. Unconformities are a type of geologic contact (a boundary between rocks) caused by a period of erosion or a pause in sediment accumulation, followed by a renewed deposition of sediments. In other words, an unconformity is a break in time in an otherwise continuous rock record.
