Mawrth Vallis Dark-Toned Cap Associated with Well-Preserved Crater Ejecta

Mawrth Vallis Dark-Toned Cap Associated with Well-Preserved Crater Ejecta

Of Light and Dark in Mawrth Vallis
The objective of this observation is to help us determine the relationships of a “spectrally bland” dark-toned cap unit visible here, and at other locations on Mars (e.g., Nili Fossae, Oxia Planum etc.). At this location Context Camera images show that the dark materials coat both the ejecta lobes of a nearby well-preserved crater as well as the surrounding surface. Do these materials post date the formation of the crater?
