Deflated Rampart Crater between Channels in Hephaestus Fossae

A Deflated Rampart Crater in Hephaestus Fossae
A rampart crater is a specific kind of impact crater that displays an ejecta with a low ridge along its edge. This is referred to as “fluidized ejecta,” and is found mainly on Mars. The diameter of the crater can be used to infer the excavation depth, while new craters on the ejecta can reveal the age of the larger impact. This crater is located between outflow channels in Hephaestus Fossae, and creates an opportunity to estimate the depth to the water (ice) table through time over this peculiar region.
