Possible Sulfate-Rich Terrain

Possible Sulfate-Rich Terrain

Possible Sulfate-Rich Terrain
One interpretation of this area is that Valles Marineris sulfate layers once filled the canyons. Another proposes that sulfate deposits grew as domes. A prediction is that layer orientations should be aligned with, though gentler than, modern surface slopes. A decisive test requires digital terrain models in areas where layers are well-exposed over a wide range of elevations, such as this corner of the mound in eastern Candor Chasma.
