Volcanic Cone in Claritas Fossae

A Volcanic Cone in Claritas Fossae
This image shows an atypical conical formation associated with flow-like features. The shape of the cone suggests that there was a larger cone whose summit was destroyed and a newer, smaller cone formed inside this crater-like area. This might be a kilometer-sized volcano. Located between the lava plains of Daedalia Planum and Solis Planum, Claritas Fossae is a graben-filled highland. (Graben are depressions that form along parallel faults.)
