Lava Embaying Hills in Elysium Planitia

The Lava Meets the Hills
What fraction of flows in this region had rootless cones? Studying this might tell us something about the history of ice in this part of Elysium Planitia. Another of our science goals is to examine samples of various flow margins where the lava was thin. Elysium Planitia is a flat-smooth plain just north of the equator that makes for the perfect location from which to study the deep Martian interior, such as with the InSight lander mission.
