Exposure of Layered Materials along Hellas Planitia Rim Escarpment

Exposure of Layered Materials along Hellas Planitia Rim Escarpment

They Might Be Clays
This observation targets a region of layered materials exposed along the northern edge of the Hellas Basin. Steep cliffs along the incised channels expose decameter-scale layering. These layers have a light tone in Context Camera imagery, suggesting the presence of clays. Thus, this may provide an opportunity to probe the environmental history of the northern Hellas Basin.
